For us today, the season of Lent remains a sacred time of reflection, repentance, and renewal. It invites us to examine our lives, turn away from sin, and draw closer to God through prayer, fasting, and acts of charity. In a world filled with distractions and busyness, Lent offers a much-needed opportunity to slow down, engage in spiritual disciplines, and refocus on Christ’s call to love and serve others. Whether through Lenten studies, our St. Matthias communal worship, or personal devotions, we embrace this season as a journey of transformation, preparing our hearts to fully experience the joy of Easter and the hope of resurrection.

We will hold an Ash Wednesday service at 6pm at St. Matthias. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent in the Episcopal Church, serving as a solemn call to repentance and spiritual renewal. Our St. Matthias Ash Wednesday service is a powerful and humbling service, where I’ll impose ashes on the foreheads of our worshippers, tracing the sign of the cross while proclaiming, "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return." This act reminds us of human mortality and the need for God’s grace. The Liturgy includes prayers of confession, scripture readings, inviting believers to embark on a season of self-examination, prayer, and reconciliation. Ash Wednesday sets the tone for Lent, encouraging us to seek a deeper relationship with Christ through humility, reflection, and acts of love.
