As I write this column, I’ve been in the Audie Murphy VA hospital since March 6th. Wednesday, March 5th, we had a nice Ash Wednesday service. My family attended the service and was very concerned about me, so at 5:30 the next morning I found myself being transported to an emergency room. Nick and Meg made it clear we weren’t leaving until I was admitted. The emergency room doctor agreed. On March 18th I had a spinal fusion. The surgery went very well, 3 spinal fusions with two rods. On March 24th, I stood and walked with a walker and assistance for the first time in two months. I’m currently in the VA Polytrauma Rehab wing, same floor, different part of the VA hospital. I’ll keep everyone posted on my expected return to Devine through texts and emails.

I want to thank everyone for your prayers. They worked! You are all part of my spiritual family, and I love you. As I’ve laid here, I’ve witnessed God’s hands at work with all the nurses and staff. I know each of you are representatives of Christ and am thankful for everything you do, no matter how big or small, for the glory of our Lord. I don’t know how long rehab will take but rest assured our St. Matthias lay leaders will continue our mission to Worship God, Be Transformed by Christ, Change the World!

Where is Jesus?

Jesus is everywhere—whether in the quiet moments at home, the bustle of our daily routines, or the farthest places we travel. As we carry our faith with us, we are reminded of His constant presence and love. Scripture reassures us of this truth: "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there." (Psalm 139:7-8). Through our shared journeys and captured moments with our flexible Jesus figurine, we celebrate the beautiful reality that no matter where we are, Christ is always with us.
