June 2024 Newsletter
pray everyone is doing well and staying cool in this season after Pentecost. Our Inquirer’s class is going well, and we may have some folks Confirmed/Received when the Rt. Dev. Dr. David G. Read visits on Father’s Day, June 16th. This will be his first visit to St. Matthias, and we’re really excited to show Bishop Read our wonderful church. We’ll also have a designated offering on Father’s Day for the Diocesan Immigration and Refugee Ministries.
Last month we celebrated Cico De Mayo with the Spanish hymn, Yo Te Amo Mucho, Prayers, and a Hispanic potluck with delicious food. We also delivered ten backpacks and suitcases for the Children’s Home. We coordinated with the Devine Food Pantry Thrift Store as three homes had many things to donate.
I identified 10 large trees around the property that exceeded their life expectancy and are in danger of toppling over. We started the first tree removal that was hanging over the neighbor’s property. If you have a chainsaw and would like to help, please let me know.
We’ve purchased and will be installing new cypher code, bio-metric fingerprint recognition and mobile phone access door handle units with dead bolts for our sanctuary front and back doors. No more keys! The door locks haven’t been changed in decades. This will add additional security for our sanctuary and allow any parishioner to access the church whenever they want for prayer. We’ll notify everyone once this is completed and set up times on Sundays to add your fingerprints and phone app for access if desired.
