March 2020 Newsletter
BISHOP’S WARDEN NEWS
I pray everyone will have a blessed Lenten season. We will have a pancake breakfast after the service on March 1st. Meg and I attended the DWTX Council 2020 in Corpus Christi. The theme for this year is “with the eyes of our hearts enlightened.” It was such a wonderful experience meeting everyone from throughout the Diocese. It was like a big family reunion. Meg attended two workshops and I helped lead two Military Ministry workshops. We have lots of information at the church to share with everyone. We had a fun POSM family event last month. Meg had painted a large tree on one of the Parish Hall walls and we had everyone paint the palms of their hands and place them on the tree. If you haven’t had a chance to yet, please stop by after the Sunday service so we can add your hand prints. We also provided canvass for families to make their own design to take home. We will have a St. Patrick’s Day theme for our next POSM family event March 15th. Thank you, Malcolm Brown for repainting our large cross at our entryway. We made a delivery to the Hospice Thrift Store, Women’s Shelter, Food Pantry and HANK (Helping Abused and Neglected Kids). We had several boxes of books and some luggage for Hank. Thank you everyone who donated items. Our weekly bible study, Wednesdays at 5pm at the Lesieur ranch is currently doing a Lenten Study. Everyone is invited. Let me know if you would like to join us and I’ll give you your own copy of the book. The following is from the Diocesan website: The Season of Season Lent - Early Christians observed a season of penitence and fasting in preparation for Easter, a season that gradually extended to 40 days in imitation of Christ's fasting in the wilderness. This season of preparation, which we now know as Lent, came to be a time when converts to the faith were prepared for baptism and those who had committed notorious sins were reconciled to the faith community. Lent, which is still a season of penitence in the Church, extends from Ash Wednesday to Easter. The 40 days do not include Sundays, which are always celebrated as mini-Easters.
Blessings,
Dexter Lesieur
