February 2020 Newsletter
BISHOP’S WARDEN NEWS
I want to thank everyone for your prayers while I was taking the General Ordination Exams. I felt the Holy Spirit with me as I took each exam. Thank you. I pray everyone is having a blessed Epiphany season. We had a great annual meeting. We shared a pot luck, reviewed all of our accomplishments for the past year, shared our plans for this year and voted on a 2020 budget. We are having our monthly POSM family event on Sunday, February 9th after the service. We will have a family craft with the theme of “Love”. We made several deliveries to the Hospice Thrift Store, Women’s Shelter, Food Pantry and HANK (Helping Abused and Neglected Kids). Thank you everyone who donated items. Our walkway was washed, stripped and repainted. It looks wonderful. You can see a big difference. As part of our community outreach, the Devine Garden Club was very appreciative for the use of our Parish Hall for their meeting. Our weekly bible study, Wednesdays at 5pm at the Lesieur ranch includes an interesting meal with great conversation. We are using the C. S. Lewis’ book “Mere Christianity”. Everyone is invited. Let me know if you would like to join us and I’ll give you your own copy of the book. Meg and I will be attending the Diocesan Annual Council February 20-22. Meg will be representing St. Matthias as our delegate. My senior seminarian classmates and I will be pages during the voting and business hours collecting papers and votes. It’ll be interesting to see 60 -70-year-old pages instead of teens and senior seminarians who are in their early 20s. The following is from the Diocesan website: The Season of Epiphany - The church calendar recognizes the season of Epiphany from January 6 until the last Sunday before Ash Wednesday which is celebrated as the Transfiguration of our Lord. The length of the season of Epiphany varies because it is determined by the date of Easter each year; the longest this season can be is nine weeks. During this time, our scripture readings focus on the revelation of Christ, including Christ's baptism, Christ as the light of the world, Christ's public ministry, and how to grow in our own spiritual journeys as the hands and feet of Christ.
Blessings,
Dexter Lesieur
